It started with a backpack and a question.
The MKE Kit Project didn't begin in a boardroom. It began the way most real things do: someone paying attention. A person on a Milwaukee street corner. A cold night. The recognition that a backpack full of basics could mean everything to someone with nothing.
We didn't wait for permission to help our neighbors. We just started packing.
From that first kit, the project grew. Neighbors told neighbors. Donations came in. Volunteers showed up. What started as one person's response became a community commitment.
We build three kits: adult, women's, and children's. Each one is packed for the specific person who'll carry it. Every item was donated by someone in Milwaukee who chose to show up.
This is Milwaukee taking care of Milwaukee.
